Gas Safety Week: Fighting for a Gas Safe Nation

Helping the public stay gas safe

We are proud to be supporting Gas Safety Week 2020, taking place 14 - 20 September.

Gas Safety Week is an annual safety week to raise awareness of gas safety and the importance of taking care of your gas appliances. It is coordinated by Gas Safe Register, the official list of gas engineers who are legally allowed to work on gas.

Badly fitted and poorly serviced gas appliances can cause gas leaks, fires, explosions and carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. CO is a highly poisonous gas that can kill quickly and without warning, as you cannot see it, taste it or smell it.

By taking care of your gas appliances properly you are taking care of your home and your loved ones. Follow these few simple checks to keep you and your family safe.

ü Check your gas appliances every year. Gas appliances should be safety checked once a year and serviced regularly by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Tenants – make sure your landlord arranges this. Set a reminder so you don’t forget at StayGasSafe.co.uk.

ü Look out for friends and relatives. Some people may be unable to arrange their own gas safety check or may be unaware of what they need to do to keep safe. Help your loved ones by ensuring that they have their appliances checked and serviced regularly.

ü Check your engineer is Gas Safe registered. You can find or check an engineer at GasSafeRegister.co.uk or call 0800 408 5500.

ü Check your engineer is qualified for the type of gas work you need doing e.g. natural gas, domestic boiler. You can find this information on the back of their Gas Safe ID card and on the Gas Safe Register website.

ü Check for warning signs that could indicate your (or others) appliances are not working correctly. Signs may include lazy yellow /orange flames instead of crisp blue ones, black marks on or around the appliance, a pilot light that keeps going out and too much condensation in the room.

ü Know the six main symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning – headaches, dizziness, breathlessness, nausea, collapse and loss of consciousness.

ü Install an audible carbon monoxide alarm and make sure your friends and relatives have one too. Check they are marked EN50291 and display the British Standards’ Kitemark.

Leon York Heating - Showroom Office Opening September 1st 2020

We are proud and excite to announce that our showroom office will be opening from Tuesday 1st September 2020

Initially this will be in an office capacity only although we are able to speak to customers through the doorway, there will be no entry to the office at this time for customers due to the ongoing situation with Covid 19

We do however look forward to welcoming customers into the showroom in the *hopefully* not too distant future!

Leon York Heating - Safe in Your Home with Worcester Bosch

Here at Leon York Heating, we have made our pledge to be safe in your home through the Worcester Bosch Installer Commitment initiative.

The Safe in your Home Installer Commitment is a pledge for installers to sign up for, enabling them to receive a pack of digital and physical tools to help them undertake work in customers’ homes safely and securely.

The Commitment intends to do two things:

Give installers clarity on the correct social distancing and hygiene guidelines they need to be following when entering customers’ homes

Give customers reassurance that any visiting installer who signs up to the commitment will have the knowledge and tools to take the right precautionary measures

The new tools have been designed by Worcester Bosch to help installers who carry out work in people’s homes to demonstrate that safety is the main focus for any boiler installation and home heating maintenance, particularly during these uncertain times.

Victoria Billings, Director of Marketing at Worcester Bosch, said; “As the UK Government starts to ease its lockdown measures, industries like ours are beginning to return to work. With this comes a constant need to adapt to the ever-changing climate.

“We feel it is important to support installers at this time, enabling them to reassure customers about how they are safe working in their homes. This initiative intends to do just that and ensure that homeowners and installers are reassured and clear regarding safety considerations for an at-home visit, with a variety of digital and physical reminders putting safety front and centre of every visit.”

Leon York Heating - Stay Safe, Stay Home - Coronavirus Update

At Leon York Heating our highest priority is the safety of all our valued customers and colleagues.

We recognise the increased uncertainty that Coronavirus is causing.

These are tough, unprecedented times, and the information and guidelines we get from government are changing daily.

Due to ever changing circumstances around Coronavirus, such as self-isolation, school closures, and daily developments, we as a business have decided to furlough all of our apprentices under the Government’s Coronavirus job retention scheme meaning they will now be able to stay home and stay safe whilst knowing they are still going to be paid and will return to work in their job roles once we are able to do so.
